One of the world's largest global online store, Amazon, has just officially announced the availability of their free Kindle reading apps for Android platform, namely Kindle for Android.

The mobile apps is immediately available for U.S. and International android device users, and has been listed in Android Market. Simply search for "Kindle" in the Android Market on your android based device and you'll find it :) As for the compatibility, Kindle for Android requires Android OS 1.6 or greater to be present on your android device.

As stated by the company, "Kindle for Android is the first Kindle app to receive an update that enables users to buy, read, and sync over 100 Kindle newspapers and magazines, including The New York Times, Newsweek, The Atlantic, and many more."

Additional features of Kindle for Android include:
  • The ability to seamlessly buy and download Kindle books and periodicals within the Kindle for Android app,
  • Share reading progress via social networks, and
  • Zoom closer to images and other graphics.
